Where to begin

Three ways in

People reach this site with different questions. Some have three free days after Ho Chi Minh City and want to know which package fits. Some want to understand a place before they choose. Some have a quote from somewhere else and want to know what a delta package should contain. Each question has its own door.

01

Compare the packages

Two, three, four or six days, each with its route, its overnight towns, its longest drive and its boat time laid out in the same order. See the four packages.

02

Read about the places

Can Tho, Chau Doc, My Tho and Ben Tre, and the two ferry towns for Phu Quoc: how many nights each needs, how you get there and what things cost on the ground. See the places.

03

Understand the terms

What "all-inclusive" covers in a delta package, how the three hotel levels differ, and which months suit which route. Start with the inclusions.

The product

What a package means on this site

A package here is a fixed route with fixed inclusions. The towns, the order, the boat trips and the sites are set in advance and written down day by day. What you choose is the date, the hotel level, the number of rooms and whether the boat trips are shared with other visitors or private to your party. We do not redraw the route, and that is deliberate: because the route is fixed, every line in the inclusions table means the same thing in every package, and two quotes for the same package can be compared line by line.

Every package runs for your party only. There is no join-in coach and no shared minibus collecting other travellers on the way. The car, the driver and the guide are yours for the days written in the itinerary. The only things you may share with strangers are the shared boats, if you choose them, and the public fast boat to Phu Quoc on the six-day package.

  • Fixed: the route, the overnight towns, the order of the days, the boat trips and the named sites.
  • Your choice: travel dates, hotel level (Standard, Superior or Deluxe), rooms, shared or private boats, and drop-off in central Ho Chi Minh City or at Tan Son Nhat airport.
  • Never on the page: a package price. Prices are on request, and the pricing page explains exactly what goes into one.

The packages are built from the same blocks. The two-day package is the Can Tho block on its own. The three-day adds An Binh islet on the way in and Chau Doc at the far end. The four-day adds a morning on the islets off My Tho, a second night in Can Tho and the flower village at Sa Dec. The six-day leaves the delta by sea from Ha Tien and ends with two nights on Phu Quoc. Because the blocks repeat, the inclusions for a Can Tho night read the same wherever it appears.

One inclusions table for every package

Most quotes for the delta describe inclusions in a sentence: "hotel, transport, guide, meals as per itinerary". That sentence hides the questions that decide whether a package is good value. Is the car shared? Is the guide with you on the boat or waiting on the bank? Is the boat yours, or a seat on a boat of twenty? Which meals?

We answer those questions once, in one standard table, and apply it to every package without changing the wording. Each package page then adds only what is specific to that route, such as a ferry ticket. The left column below is what every package contains; the right column is what none of them do.

In every package

  • Hotel nights as listed, at the level you choose (Standard, Superior or Deluxe), double or twin room, breakfast daily
  • Private air-conditioned vehicle and driver for every road leg, sized to your party and used by your party only
  • English-speaking guide from the first pick-up to the end of the last guided day
  • Every boat trip named in the day-by-day, on a shared or a private boat as written on your quote
  • Entrance tickets for every site named in the day-by-day
  • The lunches named in the day-by-day, one per full touring day
  • Bottled drinking water in the vehicle

In no package

  • International flights, and domestic flights unless added as a separate line on your quote
  • Vietnam visa or e-visa, and travel insurance
  • Dinners, drinks other than water, and any meal not named in the day-by-day
  • Tips for the guide, the driver and boat crews
  • Optional extras: cable cars, massages, extra boat hours, early check-in, late check-out
  • Anything not written in the left-hand column

The reasons behind each line, including why dinners and tips stay out, are on the page about what all-inclusive means in a delta package.

The same route at three hotel levels

Every package can be booked at three hotel levels. The route, the car, the guide, the boats and the lunches stay exactly the same; only the room changes. That makes the difference between the levels easy to read on a quote: it is the room-night cost and nothing else.

LevelThe roomThe locationSuits
StandardCompact double or twin, air-conditioning, private shower room; the window may face a side streetCentral, within walking distance or a short taxi ride of the riverfrontTravellers who are out from 05:30 to dusk and use the room to sleep
SuperiorLarger room, newer fittings, upper-floor views in some hotels, fuller breakfastOn or close to the riverfront or the town centreMost couples and families; the usual choice
DeluxeThe larger rooms available in each town, often with a river or garden view and a pool on siteRiverside or garden settings, sometimes a short ride from the centreTravellers who want the afternoon at the hotel to count

Deluxe on this site is the upper level of what each delta town offers, not a luxury resort stay. The hotel levels page describes each level town by town, including the places where the choice is thin.

Hotel names

We describe the three levels by the room and the location, not by hotel name or star rating. Your written quote names the hotel and room category for each night once we have checked availability for your dates.

What moves the price

  1. Party size. The car, the driver and the guide cost the same for two people as for six, so the per-person price falls as the party grows.
  2. Hotel level. The only line that changes between Standard, Superior and Deluxe.
  3. Single rooms. One person in a room pays for the whole room; the single supplement is that difference, night by night.
  4. Shared or private boats. A shared boat is priced per seat, a private boat per boat.
  5. The month. Rooms cost more in the weeks around Lunar New Year and on public holidays.

Each of these is explained with worked examples on the pricing page, together with the fees that third parties publish, such as boat and entrance tickets, and the dates we read them.

Who these packages do not suit

  • Anyone looking for a one-day trip from Ho Chi Minh City; we do not sell single-day or join-in tours
  • Travellers who want a route drawn from scratch; our packages are fixed, and changing the route would break the line-by-line comparison that is the point of them
  • Travellers looking for a luxury resort or a river cruise; neither is part of these packages
  • Anyone who needs a published price before sending a date and a party size

If one of the packages is close to what you want, send the form with your month and party size. The how to book page explains what happens after that.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Are the packages private or shared?

The car, the driver and the guide are for your party only. Boat trips can be shared with other visitors or private to you; your quote states which, line by line. The fast boat to Phu Quoc on the six-day package is a public service.

Why is there no price on the packages?

Prices are on request. A package price depends on the date, the party size, the hotel level and the boat type, and a single number on the page would be wrong for most combinations. The pricing page shows how the price is built and which published fees go into it.

Can we change the route?

No. The route is what makes the inclusions comparable. You choose the dates, hotel level, rooms and boat type. If none of the four routes fits, a fixed package is not the right product for your trip.

Do you name the hotels?

Yes, on your written quote, once we have checked availability for your dates. On the site we describe each level by the room and the location instead.
