The places on our routes

Four places carry our packages: Can Tho on the Hau River, Chau Doc by the Cambodian border, the islets of My Tho and Ben Tre, and the two ferry towns for Phu Quoc. Each page says what the place is really like, how long it needs, how you get there and what things cost on the ground.

A note on names after 2025

Vietnam merged many provinces in 2025. Since 1 July 2025, My Tho has been part of an enlarged Dong Thap province, the former Ben Tre province is part of Vinh Long, Soc Trang and Hau Giang are part of Can Tho city, and Kien Giang, with Rach Gia, Ha Tien and Phu Quoc, is part of An Giang. The town names on this site are the ones on road signs and ferry tickets. Where the province matters, we say "the former Ben Tre province" rather than calling it a province today.

River city

Can Tho

The main city of the delta and the base for every package, because Cai Rang floating market needs a night before it. A city of wharves, bridges and a long riverfront, with the old Binh Thuy house on its edge. Read about Can Tho.

Border country

Chau Doc

Border country on the upper Hau River: Sam Mountain with its temples, Cham villages across the water, floating fish farms, and Tra Su forest twenty kilometres away. Our three, four and six-day packages stay one night. Read about Chau Doc.

Islets

My Tho and Ben Tre

The closest part of the delta to Ho Chi Minh City and the most visited. Islets in the Tien River with canals under water-coconut palms, coconut-candy workshops and the long bridges that replaced the ferries. Our packages cross it on the first morning. Read about My Tho and Ben Tre.

Gulf of Thailand

Rach Gia and Ha Tien

The two mainland towns with fast boats to Phu Quoc. Ha Tien is the shorter crossing and the one our six-day package uses; Rach Gia is the larger town with the longer crossing. Read about the ferry towns.

Places our packages do not cover

The delta is larger than our routes. We do not run packages to the Tram Chim wetlands, the U Minh forests, the Ca Mau cape or the Khmer pagodas of Soc Trang and Tra Vinh, and we do not build a package around a homestay night. These are fine places; they need different trips, and we would rather say so than stretch a package to reach them.

If you already know which place you want most, the packages page shows which route includes it, and the pricing page shows how the price is put together.

How a place page is laid out

Every destination page follows the same order, so you can compare them quickly. First, the key facts: how many nights our routes spend there, the nearest airport and the months that suit it. Then an honest paragraph on what the place is really like today, including what has been lost or over-visited. Then how many nights it needs and why fewer does not work, the months, how to get there, and what things cost on the ground, with the source and date of every published figure.

Each page ends with a section on when to skip the place altogether, and with links to the packages that include it. The pages do not sell; they are there so that you can decide whether a package is right before you send the form.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Which place should we not miss?

For most first visits, Can Tho, because of the early market. That is why every package includes it.

Is Chau Doc worth the extra day?

If you want to see the delta change from river city to border country, yes. Sam Mountain and Tra Su forest are unlike anything closer to Ho Chi Minh City.

Do the packages visit Phu Quoc's sights?

No. The six-day package gives you two free nights on the island, with transfers but no guide or touring.

Why do some pages mention new province names?

Because the 2025 provincial merger changed them. We use town names, and the former province names where it helps you find a place on a map.
